LEARNING TIME - Group Discussion

COMMUNICATION/SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

TOPIC: WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU WANT SOMEONE TO SHARE

THIS ACTIVITY ENCOURAGES BETTER LISTENING, SELF-AWARENESS, TEAMWORK, AND PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS.

EXAMPLE

During "Learning Time," two children act out a scenario as playmates. The teacher will give each toy to the children that they both liked. Playmate one wants to also play with playmate two toys, but playmate two is not sharing. Playmate one now looks very sad. Both children have been playing with their toys for an extended time. The group, including our actors, would be asked by their educator what the problem is? How would they feel if they were playmate one, and how can they tell not sharing has become a problem? Their goal is to develop a solution and a possible outcome as a group.
